The woman behind the numbers — and the reason we call it Book Smart! 📚
Michelle Perkins CTA, ACA, FIATI is Managing Director of Book Smart Accountancy & Tax Advisors Ltd, with over 20 years’ experience in accountancy and taxation.
And yes… she really does love accounts! 😂
With roots in farming and construction, and experience across haulage and other industries, Michelle knows that behind every set of accounts are real people, real businesses and plenty of hard work.
After starting her career in a small practice, Michelle progressed to Director and Manager before taking the leap and creating Book Smart — turning a career into a growing family business built on great clients, a brilliant team and straight-talking advice.
Tax doesn’t have to be taxing! Michelle specialises in Irish and UK taxation, making complicated matters simple and practical.
When she’s not talking tax, she’s a mum, wife, gym-goer and keen camping enthusiast. 🏕️
Meet Lana
Senior Accountant
Lana - MIAI, AIPA, has 4.5 years’ accountancy experience and is one of our Senior Accountants at Book Smart, working closely alongside Michelle.
With a sharp eye for detail and a practical, down-to-earth approach, Lana helps keep the Book Smart wheels turning, especially when it comes to payroll, company accounts and sole trader accounts.
And payroll? That’s Lana’s speciality! From wages and payslips to all those little details that can make business owners want to run for the hills 😂, she’s our go to girl for keeping everything in order.
When she’s not working with figures, Lana swaps spreadsheets for the gym, farm and great outdoors. 🐄🌿
She loves weekends on the farm and is currently enjoying looking after her cow and her brand-new calf! She’s also a keen walker and hiker and has recently taken up learning the fiddle.

Lana loves being part of the family business, working with the team and getting to know our clients.
Meet Sophie
Senior Accountant
Sophie has been part of the Book Smart team for a year, bringing 3 years’ accounting experience, a Commerce degree from Galway and a Masters in Accounting.
With a broad knowledge of accountancy and taxation, Sophie has a particular interest in CRO requirements, UK taxation and Corporation Tax - especially the areas that can make clients’ heads spin! 😂
She understands the client side too. Coming from a family with two businesses, Sophie knows that running a business is about much more than the numbers. She understands the decisions, challenges and occasional sleepless nights that come with it and brings that perspective to her work.
From accounts to Arsenal! Don't judge ❤️⚽
Outside the office, Sophie loves spending time with friends and family, travelling, country music and following her beloved Arsenal.
She loved her trip to Australia and definitely wouldn’t say no to heading back! 🇦🇺

Meet Michaela
Senior Accountant
Michaela, MIATI, is one of our Senior Accountants at Book Smart Accountancy & Tax Advisors Ltd, bringing 8 years' of experience in accountancy and taxation to the team.
With a particular passion for taxation, Michaela previously spent two years as a Tax Assistant Manager, building valuable experience and a strong understanding of the ever-changing tax world.
Tax can sometimes feel like a maze of rules, deadlines and paperwork, but Michaela enjoys getting stuck in and finding her way through it! Her knowledge, attention to detail and practical approach help ensure our clients' tax affairs are handled properly and efficiently.
As a Senior Accountant, Michaela is also valued for her friendly and approachable nature. She enjoys getting to know clients, understanding their needs and making the numbers feel a little less daunting.
When she's not working with accounts and tax, Michaela's favourite place to be is with her kids. Family time is hugely important to her, and she also enjoys walking, getting outdoors and catching up with friends.
