Registered Office Address
Every Irish limited company is legally required to have a registered office address in Ireland. This is the official address at which your company can be contacted by the Companies Registration Office, Revenue, and other statutory bodies. It must be a physical address in the Republic of Ireland and cannot be a PO box.
For many business owners, using their home address or a temporary address as their registered office is not ideal. It becomes publicly visible on the CRO register, which can raise privacy concerns and create an unprofessional impression for clients, partners, and investors.
At Book Smart Accountancy, we offer a registered office address service that allows you to use our professional business address as your company's registered office. All statutory correspondence received at our address is handled promptly, scanned, and forwarded to you, ensuring you never miss an important communication from the CRO, Revenue, or any other body.
This service is particularly popular with startups, sole directors, businesses operating from home, and companies based outside Ireland that maintain a presence here. It provides a professional, compliant address without the cost of renting a full office.
Using our address also means that your registered office is managed by a qualified accounting firm, which adds a layer of credibility and professionalism to your company's public profile.
Things to Know or Watch Out For with Registered Office Address
- Your Registered Office Address Is Public - The registered office address of every Irish company is listed on the CRO public register and is accessible to anyone. Using a personal home address exposes that address to public view, which many business owners prefer to avoid.
- The Address Must Be a Physical Location in Ireland - A PO box or forwarding address that is not a genuine physical premises does not satisfy the legal requirement for a registered office. Our address is a legitimate business premises.
- Statutory Mail Must Be Received and Processed Promptly - CRO notices, Revenue correspondence, and other statutory documents are time-sensitive. Failing to act on these within required timeframes can result in penalties or the company being struck off.
- Changing Your Registered Office Requires a CRO Filing - If you change your registered office address, you must notify the CRO by filing a Form B2. This must be done within 14 days of the change taking effect. We manage this process for our clients.
- Your Registered Office Is Not the Same as Your Trading Address - A company may have a different trading address from its registered office. The registered office is purely for statutory correspondence purposes and does not need to be where the business operates from.
- All Statutory Correspondence Must Be Retained - Companies are required to keep copies of statutory documents and correspondence. We maintain records of all mail received on your behalf and make these available to you on request.
- The Service Must Be Maintained While the Company Is Active - As long as your company is registered with the CRO, it must have a valid registered office address. Allowing the arrangement to lapse without updating the CRO creates a compliance risk.
- A Change of Registered Office Does Not Update Your Revenue Address Separately - Changing your registered office address with the CRO does not automatically update your address with Revenue. Separate notification to Revenue may be required to ensure correspondence reaches you.
